Start these amazing skincare routines two months before you wedding for perfect skin on your big day!

A great skincare routine is so important to make sure you look and feel great for your wedding day. Life can be chaotic, and the added stress of wedding planning is bound to take its toll. Here at Stag and Hen, we’ve put together some super simple ways that you can achieve glowing skin in time for your special day! It’s important to get your routine sorted a few months before hand, so that it has enough time to work. Remember to avoid using any new products (makeup, shampoos, body washes, bubble baths, washing powder) to reduce the risk of an allergic reaction!


Staying hydrated is a top priority day-to-day. It prevents headaches, increases energy, boosts the immune system and maintains regularity. It’s recommended that you should consume 6-8 glasses of fluids a day. This, however, depends on your level of activity and the climate/ environment temperature. A bonus to having a healthy intake of water is also clearer skin and a smoother complexion! It does so by flushing out all those nasty toxins in your body, which cleanses and unclogs your systems. People who drink more water, tend to have more radiant skin. It can’t hurt to try right?

Sleep Routine

The body boosts blood flow to the surface of your skin whilst you are asleep which means you will awaken to a healthy, radiant glow. This means that getting enough sleep is vital for healthy skin. Not to mention, getting enough sleep will mean that you are plenty energised for all your wedding planning in the run up to the wedding. Sleep deprivation causes stress, which in turn can aggravate acne or cause a break out. Your complexion also suffers, becoming pale, pasty and ashen… not what you want for your big day! A recommended 7-9 hours sleep is ideal for resting your body, and giving you plenty of beauty sleep!

Clean Pillows

We don’t want to gross you out, but pillows can collect remnants of oil, dead skin, bacteria and dust mites… which aren’t pleasant. This is why it’s important to regularly wash pillow cases, and also replace your pillows every six months. New pillows are also good for your neck and upper back to make sure that you are resting comfortably. You can use a clean towel over your pillow cases each night to stop those pesky particles sabotaging your path to perfect skin!

Cleanse, Exfoliate, Tone and Moisturise

Arguably the most widely used routine in skincare, and one that only takes a couple of minute. Start off with a good cleanser to remove makeup, dead skin, oils and other skin pollutants from your face. Now your prepped for exfoliation. Exfoliate thoroughly to remove dry skin so that new skin cells are revealed. This will brighten and give your skin a smoother appearance. It also removes dead skin from your pores, making them look smaller (an added bonus!). Use a toner to remove oil, grime and any leftover dirt to refresh your skin and remove any final impurities. Finally, use a skin-specific moisturiser to rehydrate the skin, and make it soft and smooth.

Treat yourself to spa treatments

Every once in a while take a trip to the professionals. Relax and let them pick out the best treatments for you. Likelihood is, they’ll know what your skin needs even more than you do. Besides, we all love being pampered a bit don’t we. From massages and hot rocks, to hot towels and facials, take the time to let someone give your skin a bit of TLC, and destress. Relaxing will prevent the breakout of acne or stress induced rashes and spots. Make a girls day of it, or go solo… or make your own spa day from home. Charcoal face masks are all the range at the minute and are fab at removing dirt and impurities from your pores. So whether you visit the pros, or have a DIY spa day, pampering is good!

Green Tea

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but too much caffeine can wreak havoc on your skin! Late night coffee’s and cups of caffeinated tea, are probably a bad idea. Start substituting these for green teas, or herbal teas. These naturally caffeine-free hot drinks are relaxing, hydrating and tasty, but without the bad stuff! Not only will they tackle those pesky toxins, but they’ll also relax you to make sure that you can drift off into a good nights sleep. And remember, sleep is good! Alternatively, hot lemon water is great for increasing metabolism and cleansing the body.

Shampoo your makeup brushes

Look after your brushes and they’ll look after you. These brushes touch so many surfaces from the inside of your makeup bag to your vanity counter, to your skin and your bathroom cabinet and back in your makeup bag. They’re bound to pick up some form of bacteria, and we don’t want that ending up on your skin! It’s important to wash your brushes with lukewarm water and a gentle shampoo to rid the bristles of any unwanted particles. Plus, your makeup applies much easier if you’re not using brushes clogged up with makeup from past uses! Try and wash fully at least one a week.

Eat clean

Eating clean, means plenty of greens. Superfoods are fantastic and can be whipped up into tasty treats! Kale, spinach and broccoli are particularly great, but plenty of veg in general is a good way to build up good levels of essential vitamins and minerals. Eating healthily also maintains a healthy immune system, and cleanses the body of all the yucky stuff. Lots of vegetables, fruits and nuts are really good for you, and can be picked up from markets and supermarkets pretty cheap. Frozen veggies are a particularly good source of antioxidants, and you don’t have to worry about them going off too quickly!
