’15 Minute City’
By city standards, Newcastle’s tiny! Jump on the metro or use the highly efficient and thorough bus services to get around. Call an uber, a budget taxi line, or walk across the city in a matter of minutes. Everywhere is so accessible, you won’t have any problems at all getting around, which means less transport time, and more time to have fun! Don’t be mistaken though. Just because it’s only small, it still offers all of the culture, atmosphere, events and opportunities of the bigger cities. It’s just more compact!
Nightlife wise, you can bag some brilliant drinks deals which means you can get a lot more for your money. Booking tables in clubs also usually gets you some freebies (queue jumps, bottle of something, and mixers) therefore leaving you with more cash left in your pocket! During the day, there are plenty of things to do and places to see that are completely free of charge, and with a reasonable priced metro service, you can get out to the coast for a few quid!
There’s more to the city than just it’s drinking culture. There really is something for everyone. Have a picnic party at Jesmond Dene Park, or fire up the BBQ at Tynemouth beach. Stroll down the quayside where there’s a range of pubs, bars, restaurants and cafe’s for you to choose from, or head across the bridge and take in the fantastic displays of contemporary art in the Baltic. Centrally, there is a mass of shops, museums and galleries, so if you’re not into excessive drinking and partying, you’re still covered!
It may sound cheesy, but Newcastle really does have some of the friendliest locals. Say hello to someone in a bar or a queue, and they’ll be more than happy to converse with you about everything and anything. They’ll point you in the right direction so that you won’t get lost, recommend the best places to go to ensure you have the best experience and just have a general nice chit chat with you. Enjoy the fact that Newcastle has sustained it’s kind and friendly sense of community. Maybe you can even pick up some Geordie lingo along the way to take home!
