Why we love Newcastle

There is more to Newcastle than a brilliant nightlife. It is a city enriched in culture, vibrancy, and creativity and has a great balance of city-life bustle and tranquility. Everything is all squeezed into this tiny Northern city for your enjoyment, which is exactly why it’s worth your visit!

We’ve got Culture!

Newcastle has a stunning art scene with galleries such as the Baltic (contemporary art) and the Laing Art Gallery. Both are free to enter, and within you can spend hours browsing their stunning collections of masterpieces! Musically, the Metro Arena, The Sage, and the 02 host international artists and bands, whilst the likes of The Cluny and Wylam Brewery host smaller localised gigs. Enjoy theatre? We’ve got that covered too, at the beautiful Theatre Royal. Don’t mistake Newcastle for just a binge-drinking culture, there’s so much more to enjoy!

Inventive

Do you know about what we’ve invented up in the toon? Well, take a load of this. The Rocket Steam train, invented in 1829 by Robert Stephenson. Heard of Lucozade? William Owen, a Newcastle based chemist invented “Glucozade” in 1927 before changing it’s name to Lucozade two years later. Light bulbs? Yeah we did that too. Thomas Edison might think he got there first, but Joseph Swan who lived and worked in Newcastle, demonstrated the bulb one year before Edison! And last but not least. Do you enjoy a lovely Newcastle Brown Ale every now and then? Well unsurprisingly, that ones from here too!

It’s pretty!

Enjoy a stroll along the stunning coasts of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay after a short metro journey. Alternatively marvel at the beautiful architecture of the city centre surrounding Monument. From the gorgeous Georgian styled Grey Street, voted the best street in the UK, to the stunning contemporary Sage (named  by The Rough Guide as one of the top ten best buildings of the last 100 years in England), it’s certainly a beautiful place to get lost in! And when you want to escape the busy roads, venture no further than Jesmond Dene, a wooded area in which you can find quaint streams and waterfalls, as well as lush grassy areas and peace and quiet!

We do know how to party…

and everyone knows it. Newcastle is famous for it’s nightlife, and it’s cheap alcohol. You can tuck yourself away in a good old fashioned pub, or go all out and hit the clubs. Whatever you decide, you can get by without spending a fortune and have a fantastic night. With such a range of places to go, you’ll find the perfect bar or club to suit your drinks and music tastes!
