5 Awesome new years resolutions you can make with your partner!

Happy New Year from all of us at Stag and Hen Newcastle! We hope that you celebrated with all your friends and families, and that 2018 will bring you everything you need. We’re back online and here to talk about new years resolutions!

One of the biggest traditions of NY are those pesky resolutions. We know, it’s a bit dated and cheesy now. After all, who needs a special day to make a change? BUT, there is something refreshing about a new year and a clean slate to make some big, and small, changes in your life. Take a look back at 2017, and identify the parts when you were unhappy. Note them down, and then strive to make changes in these particular aspects of your life.

Making resolutions is easy. Sticking to them can be, well, challenging. Well, we think that you can make things a bit easier, by making a joint resolutions list with your significant other. If you’re entering the year single, make a pact with a close friend instead! Share your goals, and then use the next twelve months to inspire and motivate each other (i.e. give each other a good kick up the bum when you need it!)

Here are some resolutions, which will improve your health and happiness in 2018, that are easier to keep when you’ve got a resolution buddy!

Hit the gym at least once a week

Are you wanting to get fit, but struggle to get motivated? This is one of the most popular new years resolutions, and one that is often given up on! Employ your partner as your gym buddy, and set a specific time each week when you head to the gym, or exercise at home. Make sure you stick to the routine, and it will become a natural part of your weekly schedule. Have fun with your partner and get fit at the same time! It’s definitely easier to face that treadmill when you’ve got a friendly face with you to motivate you (or laugh at you).

Clean Eating

January might have you feeling a bit groggy. It’s easy to fall into the routine of ordering take away’s or indulging in all that leftover chocolate. As a couple, plan your weekly meals, and only buy in the ingredients that you need. We’re not talking all kale, spinach and superfoods, but making sure you’re tackling all the important food groups will make sure you’re getting all the vitamins you need. Don’t cut out all the unhealthy (but very tasty) stuff though. Allow yourself a cheat meal every week, where you are allowed fried foods, desserts, or a takeaway. Make the schedule so that you can cook together (or take it in turns), and then eat together, allowing you quality time with each other too!

Try a new activity each month

Make things a bit adventurous by planning trips to places you haven’t been to before, or book activities you’ve never done. Take yourselves camping, to a cooking class or dance class, or go all out and throw yourselves out of planes (preferably attached to a parachute). Fall in love with new things, or at least find out what you don’t like. Face your fears, tackle challenges, enjoy each others company, and never get bored. Keep your relationship active, healthy and exciting with a little adventure.

Weekly Date Night

Prioritise your relationship for at least one night a week, over work and your friends. Turn off your phone, power down your laptop, and close yourselves off from the world. Enjoy each others company without the distraction of everyday life commitments. Talk, laugh, smile. Catch up on what you’ve been missing when you’ve been too busy responding to work emails, or running out the door to catch the bus, or making the kids pack ups… Make time for each other. Every week.

Give more compliments

Don’t think we mean you have to deliver a Shakespeare-esque dialogue of love to your partner every morning. That’s a bit much. But, little comments do matter. Notice when he’s wearing a new shirt, tell her that you love her laugh. Admire his smile, and acknowledge her intelligence. It all matters, and a small compliment can go a long way.
